Project Purpose

A student’s ability to read is a critical predictor of academic and lifelong success. Early identification of children who may need extra reading support is essential to keep them on a positive trajectory.

In partnership with schools across Nebraska, the WORDS Project provides sustained support and professional development to kindergarten through third grade (K-3) teachers — empowering them to deliver effective reading instruction and assessment.

Together, we can achieve our shared goal to improve reading outcomes for all students.

Our mission is to improve reading outcomes for K-3 students in Nebraska by providing schools, districts and teachers with effective, practice-based strategies to support high-quality reading instruction and assessment.

What Makes WORDS Different?

The WORDS Project is not a one-off workshop. It’s a sustainable professional development program that supports teachers throughout the year with workshops, learning modules and other resources tailored to meet the needs of Nebraska educators and students.
